Benefits of Counselling:

In addition to talk therapy, taking away tools to use during difficult times will better improve your self soothing and coping mechanisms reducing the need for ongoing sessions.
Some of the benefits that counselling can have on an individual are self-awareness, emotional clarity, improved communication and relational skills. Counselling can improve mental health outcomes by reducing anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress and often leave a person feeling validated, understood and supported.

The perinatal period is referred to as a time from conception through to the first year after birth and involves significant physical and emotional changes and for some a sense of losing their identity. Some may feel pressure to meet expectations of others in pregnancy and parenthood, making decision making difficult. Engaging in a counselling session during this period may support a person navigate these changes, prioritise what matters to them and reassess the role they identify with.

Birth debriefing and perinatal specific counselling is for both mothers and fathers as both can be affected by these experiences.
